"People are being urged to intervene when they witness domestic violence, though a recent study reveals many are confused about the issue.
Launching Child Protection Week, director general of the WA Department of Child Protection Emma White said that family and domestic violence was one of the biggest issues facing the community.
"Eighty per cent of all child protection matters that come to the department's attention have some feature of family domestic violence," Ms White told 720 ABC Perth.
"Sixty per cent of all children in our care in WA are there as a result of either direct harm, or emotional harm as a result of family violence."
